Halvor Ronning

A founding member and past director of the Jerusalem School of Synoptic Research, Halvor Ronning (B.A., St. Olaf Lutheran College; B.D., Lutheran Theological Seminary; M.A., Yale University) now serves as one of the four members of the Jerusalem School’s Board of Directors. An officially licensed Israeli tour guide, he has lived in Israel for over thirty-five years. Although born in China, Ronning grew up in Chicago where he began his education. Later, he was a Fulbright scholar at the Ruprecht Karl Universitat, Heidelberg, Germany, and a postgraduate student at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem where he met his wife, Mirja. After completing an M.A. at Yale University and teaching in a Lutheran college in the United States, he and Mirja returned to Israel where they have reared four children. Together, Halvor and Mirja direct the Home for Bible Translators, which they founded in 1993.
