Revised: 6-Oct.-2015
The first letter of חֶסֶד (ḤE·sed, “goodness,” “kindness,” “grace”) is the ח (ḥet), a guttural that we learned in Lesson 23 in the word מָשִׁיחַ (ma·SHI·aḥ, “messiah”). Under the ḥet is a new vowel symbol in the shape of three dots. This symbol, called סֶגּוֹל (se·GOL), stands for the short “e” sound as in the word “net.”
