Hanan Eshel, Ph.D. (1958-2010) was a professor in the Department of Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University. As an archaeologist and historian of the Second Temple period he made important contributions to the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the settlement at Qumran, and the history of the Bar Kochva Revolt. Hanan Eshel dedicated his book, The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Hasmonean State (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans; Jerusalem: Yad Ben-Zvi, 2008) to David Flusser, under whom he studied.
