Dwight A. Pryor [1945-2011]

Since first setting his heart to study, to do, and to teach God’s word to God’s people, the late Dwight A. Pryor has earned the respect and appreciation of believers throughout the United States and around the world as a gifted Bible teacher of exceptional clarity and depth. Operating on the Jewish principle that study is a high form of worship, Dwight has touched the hearts and minds of many others with the inspiration of the Word of God and the joys of seeing Scripture through the eyes of the Jewish Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). Dwight was a founding board member of the Jerusalem School of Synoptic Research, and his many years of association with seminal Jewish and Christian scholars in the Land provided him with penetrating insights into the life, language and teaching of Jesus. Further, his university and graduate studies, first in Philosophy and Eastern religions and later in Judaic Studies, combined with his fervent faith in the Messiah and his passion for seeing the Kingdom of God advance, afforded him a unique perspective on the Bible that consistently lifted up the name of the Lord and informed, inspired and challenged believers. Dwight’s most recent books were Behold the Man! Discovering the Historical Jesus of Nazareth and Unveiling the Kingdom of Heaven. He was a regular monthly contributor of Bible commentary to The Jerusalem Post's Christian Edition international magazine, and produced over fifty audio and DVD teaching series. He served as a Professor at the emerging online Bible college, Hebraic Heritage Christian Center, which features his two-semester course, Jesus of Nazareth: Our Hebrew Lord. While in graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin, Dwight founded the Center for Judaic-Christian Studies in 1984. Under his leadership as President, the Center published several books, including Understanding the Difficult Words of Jesus (Blizzard and Bivin), the award-winning Archaeology of the Land of the Bible (Mazar) and the classic Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith (Wilson); held many national conferences featuring distinguished Bible scholars; and sponsored ongoing Gospel research in Israel. In 2005, Dwight was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by the Centre for the Study of Biblical Research in Redlands, California, for his outstanding achievements as a pioneer in the Hebraic Renewal Movement in the Church.
